Nexus 7 Tablet “Public Speaking” Commercial

Categories: Business Presentations

screenshotI love Google’s great new commercial promoting its Nexus 7 tablet. I'm sure if you've seen it, you can relate, too.

It features a middle-school student who uses his Nexus 7 tablet to research how to deliver a speech.

Stage fright is the first concern, as he uses the voice command feature to search for the word glossophobia -– a fear of public speaking.

This student is hardly alone -- fear of public speaking ranks second to only fear of death. The comedian Jerry Seinfeld joked, “This means to the average person, if you have to go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

When his next search for “Public Speaking in Practice” yields a video of President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivering a moving speech, he practices similar gestures in front of the mirror while practicing his own material -- a great idea!

Then the student Googles “great speeches,” “best speeches ever,” “voice projection” and “books on public speaking.” He falls asleep while reading a chapter from a book he downloaded to his Nexus 7 tablet on “Self Confidence Through Preparation.”

The boy goes to school the next morning and we him standing at the podium and he gives his presentation to his audience members (classmates). When he finishes, he waits a beat and hears the applause of his classmates and smiles – success!

The boy looks up to see one female classmate smiling shyly at him. Then with his now renewed self-confidence, the boy uses Google Nexus 7 again to search “how do I ask a girl out?” and the commercial ends -– with the conclusion this boy has renewed confidence and is ready to carpe diem ... seize the day.

This boy’s journey from fearful to confident presenter models nearly everything BRODY teaches about presentation skills.
